85, of Johnston, RI, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2022, after a short struggle with cancer. He passed at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence. He was a devoted husband to his wife Fanney B. (Antonsdottir) Dziekiewicz.
George was born in Providence, RI on November 1, 1936. He was the son of the late George M. and Mildred C. (Martin) Dziekiewicz and a brother of the late Shirley M. (Jerry) Sinape and the late Delores (Fred) Walsh. George is a retired U.S. Army Veteran who proudly served his country, joining during the Korean Conflict he was a member of 6th Armored Division, 92nd Armored Infantry Battalion Combat Command. He chose to continue his service with the Army Reserve and the Rhode Island National Guard, retiring in 1996. He was proud to serve and was honored to be among the many who served with dedication throughout the years. George owned two businesses and worked for the East Greenwich School Department for 23 years, most recently with Temple Sinai in Cranston. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, bird watching and spending time with family and friends, as some of his hobbies.
He leaves behind his beloved and devoted wife of 66 years, Fanney, whom he met and married while stationed with the U.S. Army in Keflavik, Iceland. He is survived by five loving children Debra A. Dziekiewicz of Providence, Eileen M. (Edward) Gamache of Maryland, George M. Dziekiewicz, III of Providence, Eric A. (Paulette) Dziekiewicz of Riverside, and Delores A. Dziekiewicz of West Kingston. He was predeceased by daughter Fannae Bonetti, who was his third eldest child. George is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Jenae Bonetti, Sarah Lawrence, Debra Wright, Michael Dziekiewicz, Alec Gamache, Austin Gamache and Nathan Dziekiewicz. He also has seven great grandchildren and five wonderful nieces.
Funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue Cranston, RI, on Thursday, March 3rd, at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Rocco’s Church, 927 Atwood Ave, Johnston, RI. VISITING HOURS are on Wednesday, March 2nd, from 4-7 p.m. Burial will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, 73 Church St., Cranston.
