Gary A. Garabedian, 69, of North Kingstown passed away peacefully on November 7, 2021 after an eight year illness. Born in Cairo, Egypt he was the son of the late Antranig “Anthony” Garabedian and Zarouhy “Louise” (Terzian) Garabedian.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, during the Vietnam War Era and was a graduate of Bryant University. He spent his entire business career as a Mortgage professional, primarily at Domestic Bank (now Admirals Bank) where for many years he was the Vice President of Mortgage Banking.
Gary is survived by his son Jonathan Garabedian of North Kingstown. He was the former husband and dear friend of Barbara Garabedian and her husband Gene Kusmierz, also of North Kingstown. He was the brother of the late Levon “Lee” Garabedian, of the late Alice Garabedian-Rogers, and the uncle of Michael Rogers.
While Gary’s life was one marked by tragedy and catastrophic illness, especially the untimely deaths of his father and two younger siblings, he never let adversity overwhelm him. He persevered throughout, and though an intensely private individual, he exhibited kindness toward all, and to the last he maintained his sense of humor. Being a lifelong Raiders fan in the midst of Patriots Nation no doubt also helped him maintain his Stoical demeanor! Always impeccably dressed, Gary was a “foodie” as well as a gourmet cook. He loved Impressionist art, the ocean, and was a collector of elephant figurines from throughout the world. He also had a lifelong interest in, and profound respect for, Ronald Reagan-on whose Presidential campaign he worked as a young man. Gary had a fondness for Woody Allen movies, and spent many happy hours watching Seinfeld and The Sopranos with his son Jon. Indeed, the one defining element of Gary’s life was his absolute devotion to his son. It also speaks volumes as to his personality that Barbara remained his closest lifelong friend, and she became his staunchest advocate when he could no longer speak for himself. A truly gentle, caring man-he will be missed at the Holiday family gatherings and the annual Super-Bowl dinners he shared with Gene, Barbara, and Jon these many years. May he rest in peace and enjoy his eternal reward.
At the family’s request all the services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to The Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street; Suite 800; Miami, FL 33131
