Garabed Grehian died at his home in Cranston, RI on Thursday, January 27th. Born April 23, 1941 in Bucharest, Romania, Garabed dedicated his life to service to his church, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Ardashes and Vartuhi Grehian; and his wife Madlen Grehian. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Dr. Mary Yoo and Dr. Richard Yoo and grandchild Isabella from San Diego, CA; daughter and son-in-law Dr. Sonia Welch and Christopher Welch of Pittsburgh, PA; his former wife Viorica Lawson of Thousand Oaks, CA; brother and sister-in-law Haroutiun and Mary Grehian of Queens, NY; niece Louisa Grehian of Florida; Uncle Antranic Hairabedian and family in Rhode Island; Aunt Maria Jamian from Romania and family. During the last two years, he was engaged and sharing his life with Vilma Serbanescu, whom he intended to marry. In 1972, Garabed moved from Romania to New York City, where he worked as an electrical engineer. He lived and worked for 20 years in Saudi Arabia until his retirement in 2007, when he moved to RI. He continued to work at Shaw Co in Sutton, MA. Garabed was a faithful member of Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Church and the Church Choir. Also, he proudly served as a Knight of Vartan. He was a member of Rhode Island Armenian Chorale and the Boston Erevan Chorale Society. He was a beloved son, husband, fiancAC., father, grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend. A prayer service will be held on Saturday Evening January 29, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY 1278 Park Ave. Cranston. VISITING HOURS SATURDAY EVENING 4-7 P.M. There will be a wake at Lynch Funeral Home in Queens, NY on Monday, January 31 from 7-9:30 PM, with a service at 8:00 PM. Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Flushing, NY on Tuesday, February 2. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Church Choir and Cultural Committee, or to St. Illuminator's Armenian Apostolic Cathedral.
