88, of Central Ave. Johnston passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at RI Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of 63 years to Anne (Lombardi) DiMaio.
Born in Providence he was the son of the late Nicholas and Teresa (Tedesco) DiMaio.
Frank was employed as a First Deputy Clerk of the District Court of RI-Washington County for many years until retiring in 1986. Previously, he was the chief of food operations at Lincoln and Suffolk Downs, co-owner for the former Continental Caterers, and owner of the former Frank's Market. He was a founding member of Local 808 Laborers International Union. He was a WW-II Army Veteran, serving in the African, Middle Eastern Theater, European Rhineland and the 112th Gun Battalion, a member of the Italian American War Veterans-Post 8, Veterans of Foreign Wars- Post 45, charter member of the National WW-II Memorial, life member of the DAV-Chapter 1, former member of the 7th Ward Democratic Committee and the 13th District State Committee, Sons of Italy Piave Lodge 364, Verranzano Committee, Madonna DeRosario Society and a past President of the Holy Name Society-St. Bartholomew.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons; Frank N. DiMaio and his wife Michelle of Woonsocket and Robert J. DiMaio and his wife Bernadette of Providence; 3 grandchildren, Dana DiBiasio, Frank N. DiMaio Jr. and Robert J. DiMaio Jr.; seven great- grandchildren.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at 10am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory 1278 Park Ave. Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bartholomew's Church, Providence at 11am. Burial, with military honors, will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS Friday 4-8pm.
