Francis A. Scalise

a beloved teacher and accomplished musician, passed away on February 14, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on September 17, 1947, in Providence, Rhode Island, Francis dedicated over thirty years of his life to educating young minds at Nathan Bishop Middle School, where he also served as the Head of the English Department. His passion for teaching left a lasting impact on countless students, inspiring them through his commitment and dedication to the craft of education.

Francis was a proud alumnus of LaSalle Academy and Providence College, where he nurtured his love for literature and the arts. In addition to his teaching career, he was a talented musician who played the bass guitar and piano in the band, Two for the Road. He was a multifaceted individual, with interests that spanned from cooking to collecting Christmas villages, showcasing his artistic flair and zest for life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Alexa A. Helverson, and his cherished stepchildren, Lorraine Yanku (Bob) of North Kingstown, Catalina Lupo (the late Patrick Lupo) of Narragansett, Thomas Diaz (Mary Williams) of Wakefield, Dominga Valerie Barnes (Bruce) of Gerradstown, WV, and Susan Mills of Wakefield. Francis is also survived by his sister, Marie Tavano of Providence, as well as his nieces, Michelle Tavano, Debbie Tavano, JoyAnn Tavano, Jodi Duclos, and Jacki Ortez. His family will also remember him through the joy he brought to his 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He also leaves his beloved dog, Isadora.Francis was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Antonetta (Manera) Scalise; his sisters, Joyce Johnson and Anne Scalise; and his niece, Julie Johnson. Their memories will remain a cherished part of his legacy, and they will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

His funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 1pm in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory – SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Rd. (Rt. 1A), Narragansett. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS Thursday from 11am-1pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Defenders of Animals RI, PO Box 8763, Cranston, RI 02920.
