EVELYN MARIE (D'IORIO) MALLOZZI

82, of Providence, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence. She was the wife of fifty-six years to Prof. Emeritus Americo "Rico" Mallozzi, Architect. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Marco & Sabina (Starnino) D'Iorio. Evelyn was a realtor with Defelice Realtors and DiBase Associates, Inc. of North Providence for many years before retiring in 2000. She was a past member of the National Association of Realtors. Evelyn taught English as a second language at Fox Point Elementary School and taught English at Davies Vocational School. She worked as a fundraiser for the Rhode Island School of Design. After graduating from Katherine Gibbs she was fortunate enough to hold the position of Secretary to the Chairman of Planning at RISD. It was at this time she met her husband Americo who was enrolled in the Architectural program at Rhode Island School of Design. In 1956 Rico was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for one year to study in Rome. While there she attended classes in Language Studies at the University of Foreigners in Perugia. Evelyn was a 1971 graduate of the University of Rhode Island where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. In 1979 Evelyn received a Master Degree in Education from Rhode Island College. She accomplished all this while raising her three children. Evelyn will always be remembered for her love of gardening, reading and her unfailing devotion to family. She was a woman of elegance and style in all her endeavors.

Besides her Husband, she is survived by her loving children, Diane L. Toher and her husband Steven of Providence, Gian G. Mallozzi and his wife Patricia, and Selene C. Smerling and her husband Marc of Irvington, NY. Evelyn was the cherished grandmother of Anthony and Christian Micheletti, Gregory and Ana Mallozzi and Jacob and Mason Smerling and great-granddaughter Valentina Micheletti, whose Sunday visits brought her great joy. She was the youngest of fourteen and the sister of Phyllis D'Iorio of North Providence and the late Guarino "Boss", Joseph, Edward, Louis, Alfred, Vincent, and Armando D'Iorio, Elizabeth Keats, Rose Scarpetta, Susan Ianaccaro, Anna Petrella, and Ida MacLeod.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St Augustine Church, 639 Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Providence. VISITING HOURS Friday 4-7p.m. Interment will be in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Journal Summertime Fund, 75 Fountain Street, Providence, RI 02903.
