Eva ( Vespia ) Formicola, 88, a resident of Narragansett, R.I. passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family on Thursday, January 8, 2009. Eva was a loving person with a jovial personality who was devoted to her family and took great joy in entertaining her many friends as well. She had an open door tradition at her home and welcomed everyone for a delicious meal. It was not unusual for her and her late husband, Joe, to show their hospitality to as many as 25 family and friends for their signature Italian dinner every Sunday. Upon retirement, Eva and Joe resided in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Narragansett where she was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church. She was the wife of the late Joseph G. Formicola Sr. and daughter of the late Domenico and Domenica ( Romeo ) Vespia. Eva was the beloved mother of Joseph G. Formicola, Jr. of Narragansett, William D. Formicola of East Greenwich and Stella Fitzsimmons and her husband, Joseph, of Narragansett. She was the grandmother of Talia and Sydney Formicola of Cranston and Ashley and Christopher Fitzsimmons of Narragansett. Eva is also survived by her brother, Raymond Vespia of California, her sister Vera Schiavino of Cranston and her sister-in-law Dorothy Vinciguerra-DelRe, who had been so very close to her throughout her entire life. Eva was the sister of the late John Vespia, Dorothy Keller, Louise Antonucci, and Viola Pangalos. Many times you will hear the phrase" one in a million", however, anyone who had the opportunity to come into contact with Eva quickly and genuinely would comprehend the meaning of this expression. Her kind and loving spirit touched everyone around her. She will be sadly missed by all. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10am in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland St., Narragansett. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The College Crusade of Rhode Island Scholarship Fund, 134 Thurbers Ave., Providence, RI 02905.
