of Providence passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022, at RI Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was 93 years old.
Born in Añasco, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Modesto and Tomasa Hernandez. She emigrated to New York City in 1949. In 1968 she moved to Providence, RI, where she lived the rest of her life. Taquia was a seamstress in the New York City Garment District and later in R.I. textile industry.
She was the devoted mother of Roberto Gonzalez, Esq. and his wife, Deborah Gonzalez, Esq., of East Providence, Jose M. Gonzalez, Ed.D., and his partner, Dulce Castro, of Cranston and Luis Alfonso Gonzalez, Mfg. Eng., and his wife, Gloria Gonzalez of Simpsonville, South Carolina. She was the loving grandmother of Kyrk, Roberto, Liana, Ricardo, Gregory and Marisa. She was the dear sister of the late Juan Hernandez, the late Santa Serrano, Sarah Hernandez of Puerto Rico and Josefa Hernandez of Washington.
She also leaves her beloved 11 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
Taquia enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting.
In honoring her wishes there will be no funeral or viewing services. Instead, family and friends will be invited to a Celebration of Life in the near future.
