of Cranston passed away on Thursday December 16, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of Dr. Frank W. DiChiara for the past 62 years.
Born in Providence October 15, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Nicola and Luisa (Campanella) Bontempo.
She was an avid bowler and won many trophies as a result. She was a member of the Jr. League of the Council of Italian Women, member of the Clavis Cultural Club, member of the Rally Point Racquet Club and member of the Auxiliary to the RI Optometric Association, serving as President. She also served as President of the New England Council of Optometrists Auxiliary.
“Grammy” was famous for her Italian egg biscuits, and taught her granddaughters to make them as well as many other Italian cooking skills. She also made grandmas “gravy and meatballs” on Sunday for all to enjoy.
Esther was employed by Shepards Dept store for many years before retiring to have a family.
In addition to her husband, Esther is survived by her daughter, Dr. Louise DiChiara Pastore and her son Frank W. DiChiara and his wife Elaine. She was “Grammy” to Elena Anne, Christina Chiara, and Peter Thomas Pastore. She was the mother-in-law of the late Cranston City Councilman Peter T. Pastore, Jr. and sister of the late Antonetta Cappelletti and the late Brigida Moriarty.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday December 23, 2021 in the Immaculate Conception Church, Cranston at 11 am. Entombment will be private.
