ERNEST C. SHAGHALIAN

ERNEST C. SHAGHALIAN, 86, of Whipple Ave., Cranston, passed away Friday, August 28, 2009 at RI Hospital in Providence. He was the beloved husband for 60 years of Isabelle (Simonian) Shaghalian. Born in Cranston, the son of the late Mugerdich G. and Maritza (Chavoor) Shaghalian, he was a lifelong resident of Cranston.

Ernest graduated from Cranston High School and Bryant College. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the South Pacific during WW-II. With the help of his wife, he founded the Ernest Shaghalian (and Alpine) Insurance Agency in 1950 and became a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter. Later in his career, he worked for the State of RI at the Division of Motor Vehicles; the Division of Insurance; and the Department of Elderly Affairs where he worked until the week he was stricken. He was a member of Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church; a member of the Elks; a volunteer for Meals on Wheels; active in Cranston and State Republican politics; and was an avid Red Sox and N.E. Patriots fan.

Besides his wife, he was the devoted father of Ernest C. Shaghalian, Jr. and his wife Monique, and Terry M. Kutin and her husband Bruce; loving grandfather of Michael and Mark Shaghalian and Matthew and Rebeka Kutin; and dear brother of Dr. Sarkis M. Shaghalian and the late Arman, Miran and Ashund Shaghalian.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 70 Jefferson St., Providence, and may call at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Interment with Military Honors will be in North Burial Ground Cemetery, Providence.
