left us on September 7, 2022. She led a remarkable life that unfolded over her 98+ years. Born in 1924 to Italian immigrants Achille DiFiore and Elisa Petrarca, she grew up in the then small Italian village of East Natick in Warwick, RI with her siblings (all now deceased) Clarissa, Clotilda, Aurora, Rose and Achille. In 1941 she met her future husband, Nicholas DiSano. They were together until Nicholas enlisted in the Navy and left to fight in WWII. While he was away, Enrichetta became a welder at the Walsh-Kaiser shipyard in Providence building Liberty and Victory Ships for the war effort. In December of 1944 when Nick was home on leave, they decided to marry. They had a wonderful marriage raising three children immersing them in an environment that emphasized the importance of both family and education. Together they traveled extensively to Western Europe, the British Isles and even parts of North Africa. However, their time together was cut short when Nicholas died in August of 1980 at the age of 58.
The loss of the love of her life was, of course, devastating but Enrichetta soon embraced the next chapter of her life. She continued her work at Sardelli International Jewelry and established her role as the matriarch of her now growing family. A few years passed and another wonderful man – longtime friend, Carl Johnson, the widowed husband of one of her closest childhood friends,
came back into her life. They remained companions for many years until his passing in 2015. Enrichetta often said that she was blessed to have had two incredible men to share her life with. Carl shared Enrichetta’s love of travel and together they took dozens of “road trips all over the US. More importantly, Carl lovingly assumed the role of grandfather to Enrichetta’s grandchildren. He was ever present at the important moments of their lives.
In her later years, Enrichetta began passing the time with Paint by Number paintings – some, incredibly intricate. She created dozens of paintings that are now proudly displayed by many members of her extended family. Her steady hand and her experiences during the War years intrigued local News Channel 12 and in 2019 she was featured in a segment of “Street Stories”.
She took great pride in her contributions during WWII, but of all her life experiences and accomplishments, she was most proud of her family and the legacy she would leave behind.
Enrichetta is survived by her three children: Dr Cynthia DiSano, Dennis DiSano and his wife Laura, Susan DiSano Maguire and her husband Matthew. Four grandchildren: Christopher DiSano and his wife Alesia, Lauren DiSano Bradley and her husband Christopher, Kara Maguire and her husband Matthew Maurano and Caitlin Maguire and seven Great Grandchildren: Leila, Anabel, Nicholas, Emma, Rose, Lucas and Robin.
