99, of Narragansett, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2023. He was the beloved husband for 61 years of the late Mary K. (Doherty) Sousa.
Born in Bristol, a son of the late John Sousa and Emily (Cabral) Sousa Johnson, he lived in Cranston for thirty years before moving to Narragansett in 1984. He graduated from LaSalle Academy in 1941 and later attended Bryant College.
A World War II US Army Veteran, he was a member of the 246th Signal Operations Company and part of the detachment that landed at Normandy, participated in the liberation of Paris and marched into Berlin.
Ed was a letter carrier in Providence for the US Postal Services for thirty-two years. He was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church.
He leaves five children, Ellen Sandler (Jeffrey) of Winthrop, MA, Richard Sousa (Terry Su) of Palo Alto, CA, William Sousa (Karen) of Narragansett, Diane Sousa (Francis Woodbine) of Narragansett and Carol Deschenes of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother, John J. Sousa of Myrtle Beach, SC; ten grandchildren, Kara Rogers, Sean Sandler, Luke Sousa, Kaitlin Yick, Meaghan Feeney, Mackenzie Johnson, Hayley Giorgio, Olivia Woodbine, Jesse Deschenes, Kayla Reaves and 13 great-grandchildren.
Edward’s family would like to thank the staff of Scallop Shell Nursing Home for the kind and compassionate care they provided to him.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 10 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory-SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road, (Rt. 1A), Narragansett followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am in St. Veronica Chapel, 1035 Boston Neck Road, Narragansett. Burial with Military Honors will be in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. VISITING HOURS Monday from 5-7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
