Edward Adrian Hayden

affectionately known as “Coke,” passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on May 2, 1928, he was the son of the late Edward and Helen (Horan) Hayden.

Edward grew up with grit and determination to make himself someone great. His drive led him to serve his country in the capacity of a merchant marine during WWII. Following the war, Edward met and married his wife Norma Hayden whom he had 4 children with (Sarah, Timothy "Tim", Melissa, and Amy). During their marriage they built a life in both Rhode Island and Connecticut.

Coke’s adventurous spirit led him to the skies, where he discovered early on a love for aviation. In addition to his love for flying, Coke's tenacious personality made him a very successful business man. He opened and operated Hayden Machinery in Thomaston CT. Through his hard work his company has grown to be one of the largest and most successful machinery companies on the East Coast.

Besides his machinery company Edward was a fishing legend in Snug Harbor and the proud owner of a boat he affectionately named “The Codfather.” The Codfather was known for his wild deep sea tuna fishing adventures where fish were caught larger than himself! Many cherished memories were made aboard this vessel. His charm and wit endeared him to everyone he met. He had a knack for turning even the most mundane tasks into opportunities for laughter and connection. His legacy is one of adventure, resilience, and an unwavering spirit.

He leaves two children, Amy Hayden and Timothy Hayden; a brother, James Hayden; two granddaughters, Sara Rainone and Lindsey Hayden; and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Jameson Rainone.

He was the father of the late Sarah Hayden and Melissa Cavanaugh; and brother of the late Ann Grenier and Hugh Hayden.

A celebration of Coke’s life will be held by his granddaughter, Sara at Georges of Galilee, 50 Sand Hill Cove Road, Narragansett on February 8th from 1-5pm. At a later date, his ashes will be spread at sea on The Codfather with a small reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, Coke asked that donations be made to the Diabetes Association in memory of his two daughters, Sarah and Melissa. Rest in peace, Edward Adrian Hayden. A life well lived, like a perfect cast.
