EDWARD L. ALVES, 74, of Bedford Road, Cranston died Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at RI Hospital in Providence. He was the husband of the late Hwa Ja (So) Alves, and former husband of Shirley DiMuccio-Alves of Providence.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Antonio and Mariana (Amaral) Alves, he was a lifelong Cranston resident.
Mr. Alves was a lineman for the City of Cranston Fire Department for 20 years before retiring, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a graduate of Cranston High School and in 1952 was named Athlete of the Year. He was also All-State in football, baseball and wrestling, and was an avid water-skier.
Besides his former wife, he was the devoted father of Carla M. Parkinson and her husband Kevin of Cranston; loving grandfather of Christina and Marissa Parkinson; and dear brother of Anthony L. Alves of East Providence. Funeral from the NARDOLILLO
FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Saturday at 8 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Matthew's Church, Elmwood Ave., Cranston at 9 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
