age 92, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, July 21, 2022 at Tamarisk Assisted Living in Warwick. He was the beloved husband of the late Claire L. (Marchessault) Garceau for 64 years.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Henry G. and Blanche R.E. (Auger) Garceau, and was a lifelong resident of Cranston. Ed was a US Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War.
Ed was a proprietor of the Arlington News Company in Cranston for over thirty-five years along with his siblings Ray and Rita. The Arlington News Company provided a valuable service to the local community and grew to be a vital and popular gathering spot. As an owner of that business, Ed provided a warm and welcoming atmosphere that customers still talk about today. He was a loving and caring man with an unyielding devotion to his family, friends and wife Claire. As a deeply religious man, he was also a devoted and active parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church.
In his retirement years, Ed loved to travel and play golf with Claire, his family and close friends. No home project was too big or complicated for Ed. He enthusiastically took on many projects over the years and successfully completed them by himself. Ed was always a gentle man that touched the lives of many. He was loved and respected by all who knew him well and will be truly missed.
Ed is survived by a sister, Rita B. Garceau of Cranston, RI; sisters-in law, Blanche C. (Marchessault) Ritchotte of Warwick, RI, Yvonne R. (Marchessault) Kieran of Escondido, CA, Jeanne E. (Marchessault) Dionne of Meriden, KS and many nieces and nephews.
He was the loving brother of the late Henry G. Garceau, Don J. Garceau, Raymond L. Garceau and Roland F. Garceau and brother-in-law of the late Gloria I. (Marchessault) St. Peter and Arthur A. Marchessault. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Tamarisk Assisted Living in Warwick, RI
