Dr. William H. McDermott, 74, of Anawan Dr., Narragansett, passed away Friday, November 6, 2009 at home. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late William J. and Regina (McCullough) McDermott.

Dr. McDermott opened the first pediatric practice in South County in 1964 and practiced for 43 years before retiring in September 2007. He graduated from St. Raphael Academy, Fordham University and received his medical degree from Tufts University Medical School. He was an avid gardener, World War II buff and a lifelong NY Giants football fan.

He was the devoted father of William J. McDermott and his wife Jacalyn of Saunderstown, Michael B. McDermott and his wife Jill of San Diego, CA and Beth M. Eustis and her husband John of Saunderstown; loving grandfather of Noah Eustis, Kaitlyn McDermott and Lola Eustis; and dear brother of Robert McDermott of Washington, D.C., Patricia Konvalinka of Larchmont, NY and the late Ross and Eugene McDermott. He was the former husband of Madeleine (Bourre) McDermott of North Kingstown.

His funeral will be held Thursday at 8:45 a.m. from the Nardolillo Funeral Home - SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Rd. (Rt.1A) Narragansett, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church, 864 Pt. Judith Rd., Narragansett at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. VISITING HOURS Wednesday 3-8 p.m.
