89, passed away at his home in Cranston, RI on January 27, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Haven, CT on August 23, 1926 he was the only child of Peter and Catherine Ardito (nee Caputo). George attended Hill House High School in New Haven, CT then graduated from Holy Cross College in 1950. He served as a staff sergeant in the US Army prior to attending Georgetown University School of Dentistry. He had his own dental practice in Hamden, CT for 37 years. George married Susan Bon Tempo of Woodbridge, CT in 1954 and together they had 5 children. He was a resident of Hamden, CT for 37 years, then moved to Bernardston, MA where he lived for 18 years, before moving to Cranston, RI. He was active in a number of associations including the American and the New Haven Dental Associations, and was one time president of the Southern New England Academy of Practice Administration. George is survived by his wife Susan, his sons Peter and wife Susan, David and wife Caroline, Richard and wife Kathleen, and his daughter Susan; and by his grandchildren Mia, Claire, Gregory, Emily, Amelia, Jeremy, Alexander and Oliver; and predeceased by his son George Ardito Jr. George, known to his children as Pops and his grandchildren as Poppy, took great joy in spending time with his loving wife, family and friends. He was known for his keen intellect, quick wit and love of travel. He was an avid reader of literature and non-fiction, and a connoisseur of fine pasta. George was an enthusiastic cook, a skilled gardener, and reluctant accordion player. Sunday dinners at the Arditos were legendary for their good food and wine, lively conversation, laughter and family warmth.
