Dr Guy M. Gargani, esteemed dentist, and decorated Navy veteran, died April 5, 2010. Dr. Gargani was born in Cranston, Rhode Island to the late Guido and Olga (Garzilli) Gargani. He was a lifelong resident of Cranston and graduated from Cranston East High School in 1939. Thereafter he was proud to attend Providence College for his undergraduate degree and the University of Maryland for his degree in Dentistry. He was a member of the Omega Psi fraternity. In 1969 he married Joan his beloved wife of over 40 years. He was honored to work for the U.S Department of Public Health in their Fluoridation program which has helped to reduce tooth decay and has been considered one of the top 10 public health achievements of the 20th century. He later served in the Department of the Navy between the years 1943-1947. He went on to open a successful private dental practice on Reservoir Avenue in his hometown of Cranston where he remained for over 50 years. He was a lifelong member of the Pawtucket Country Club where he spent much of his free time playing golf. In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Gargani was proud to be Club champion. He also had the remarkable achievement of not one but several "hole in ones". Furthermore he was passionate about watching the Boston Red Sox as well the Providence College basketball team. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Wright Gargani and his daughter, Nicole Gargani Finnegan. He leaves three beautiful grandchildren, Siobhan, Dylan and Roisin as well as a son-in-law, Dr. Michael J Finnegan. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sister, Beverly Gofton of Warwick as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister Gloria Erickson. Funeral services for Dr Gargani will held be at 10:00 am, Thursday, April 8, 2010 at the Immaculate Conception Church, 237 Garden Hills drive in Cranston. Burial services with military honors will be held at the Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
