James F. Boyd, Jr., MD, 85, of Raymond Dr., Narragansett, died peacefully after a brief illness, Sunday, July 8, 2007 at South County Hospital in Wakefield. He was the husband of the late Virginia S. (Sullivan) Boyd. Born in Providence, son of the late Dr. James F. and Clara E. (Tobin) Boyd, he lived in Providence, Barrington, and later in Cranston, before moving to Narragansett in 1967. Dr. Boyd was a radiologist for 30 years before retiring. He graduated from Classical High School in Providence in 1939, Brown University in 1943, and Tufts Medical School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the rank of Captain during WW-II in Texas. He was a founding partner of X-Ray Associates, Inc. and was on the staffs of Roger Williams Hospital, South County Hospital and the former Lying-In Hospital. He was a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, past President of RI Roentgen Ray Society, and a proud member of Sons of the Irish Kings. Dr. Boyd was an avid fisherman and philatelist. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan, starting with attending games at Fenway Park in the 1920's with his grandfather, a tradition he continued with his own grandchildren through this year. He was the devoted father of Marcia J. Boyd of Rochester, NY, Kathleen F. Boyd and her husband Daniel Paolangeli of Ithaca, NY, and Doreen Boyd Lawson and her husband Thomas of Narragansett, with whom he lived; and loving grandfather of Michael, Joseph and Katherine Fox-Boyd, Jeremiah Ballard, Patrick Paolangeli and Lauren Lawson. He is also survived by his dear friend Doris Gillooly of Barrington, family friend David Mozley of East Greenwich, and many beloved nieces and nephews and their families. He was the brother of the late Clara "Dolly" Elson, and father-in-law of the late Edward H. Fox. Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME-SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Rd., (Rt. 1A) Narragansett on Wednesday at 8:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Veronica Chapel, 1035 Boston Neck Rd., Narragansett at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private. VISITING HOURS TUESDAY 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: South County Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Center, c/o Office of Development, 100 Kenyon Ave., Wakefield, RI 02879-9971.
