Dorothy S. (Hannon) McVey

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy McVey, at the age of 94 on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband William R. McVey, Sr., the love of her life. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Lillian (Rondina) Hannon; and sister of the late Russell Hannon.

Dorothy was the loving mother of Debbie Tully (Floyd), William McVey, Jr. (Nikki), Robert McVey (Claudia), Thomas McVey (Ellen) and the late Timothy McVey; sister of Robert Hannon (Elaine).

A proud and devoted stay-at-home mom, Dorothy poured her heart and soul into raising her five children with love and care. She found joy in being the central figure in their lives, and those who knew them could see that she was a true star in their eyes. Dorothy loved the simple pleasures in life, including packing up the car with her five kids and heading to Roy Carpenter’s Beach each summer, where she not only enjoyed the ocean but also made lasting friendships.

As her children grew, Dorothy ventured into the workforce, where she was employed by the Rhode Island Employee Assistance Program ( RI EAP) and the United Way, both of which she thoroughly enjoyed. She took great pride in her work, always dressing with elegance and grace.

Dorothy adored her grandchildren and was always there to help babysit or enjoy sleepovers at Grammy’s house. She is survived by ten grandchildren, Erin McCurdy, Jennifer McCurdy (fiancé Anthony), John Tully (Angela), Kerry Miller (Matt), Katie Giorgi (David), Rebecca Clay (David), Bethany McVey Paster (Joshua), Shannon Gurule (Rodney), Haley McVey and Tommy McVey (Samantha). Dorothy was predeceased by her granddaughter, Mandy McVey. She also leaves 11 great-grandchildren: Katelyn, Emily, Meghan, Rose, Myles, Beckham, Winny, Isla, Bailey, Colby and Boden.

Dorothy’s love for her family knew no bounds, and her memory will forever be cherished by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a beacon of love, devotion and strength and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family.
