of Cranston, died Monday, December 7, 2020 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the widow of Joseph M. McPhillips, Jr. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Fiorinda (Sarcione) Simone.
Dorothy was a clerk in the Fiscal Department of Economic Development for the City of Providence retiring after 10 years. Prior to that, Dorothy was a homemaker. Dorothy was an avid Yankee fan and Derek Jeter was her favorite player. One of her most memorable experiences was when she visited Italy and got to see Pope John Paul II. Dorothy was happiest when surrounded by her family. Dorothy was a kind and generous soul.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Field and her husband Douglas of North Carolina, daughter Sharon Fedak and her husband Mike of Cranston, and her son Michael McPhillips and his wife Tracy of West Warwick. She was the proud grandmother of Christine Malovetz and husband Blake, Stephen Pawlak and wife Liz, Matthew Fedak and wife Madison, Megan McPhillips and Ryan McPhillips, and six great-grandchildren; Jacob and Lucy Pawlak, Malcolm and Arthur Malovetz, and Dylan and Riley Fedak.
She was the sister of the late John Simone, Armand Simone, Lydia Gizzarelli and Lucy Edmundson. She was the sister-in-law of Sister Mary Agnes of the Cross (Jean McPhillips), Edward McPhillips and William McPhillips, and the late Catherine Surowiec, Mary Mularz, Anna Bricault, John McPhillips, Dolores Bonetti and Patricia Caron. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, her funeral service and burial will be private. A celebration of her life will be held when it is safe to do so.
