DONNA ANN HAVRYLIK, R.N., B.S.N., 54, died at home on June 25, 2009 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Stanley A. and Wanda (Kawa) Havrylik.
Donna graduated from Rhode Island College in 1976 as a Registered Nurse with a B.S.N. She began her career at Fogarty Hospital honing her nursing skills by using her training and innate compassion for the human condition. Her beliefs in dignified accessible medical care for everyone led her to Rhode Island Group Health Association in 1977. As an ambulatory nurse she could better service the needs of a more diverse population.
Donna's career at RIGHA/Harvard Health, developed in several different and integral capacities over a 22 year period until she retired in 1999 due to illness. Donna developed lifelong relationships with many of her patients always advocating and assisting with health and life issues well beyond her capacity as a registered nurse. Her impact on the community is still evident today. In 1981 when AIDS began to decimate patients, Donna became a "Go-To" source for information, medicine and resources for patients otherwise unable to gain access to them. Care, dignity and grace were the essence of her work.
After her retirement, Donna, battling the obstacles presented by her health, took great joy in her activities. She sang in the choir at St. Peter's Church in Warwick, and was a colorful member of her book club, "The Novel Tea Society". She was ever curious, a voracious reader, and an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Donna and her lifelong friend, Sheila Rowland walked yearly to raise money for breast cancer.
Donna is survived by her loving brother, Larry Havrylik and his wife, Betty, of Seekonk, MA, her devoted niece, Lauren Havrylik and her dear mother-in-law, Antonietta Pulcini. She also leaves her beloved nephew, Russ Havrylik, his wife Natalie and their daughter, Trinity; her niece Kristen Clark, nephew, Robert Clark, her "Sister of the Heart", Sheila J. Rowland; her precious dogs, Princess and Norbert; and many cousins and friends.
