DONALD J. PLACE
86, a lifelong Providence resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2011. He was the beloved husband of the late Evelyn M. (Winters) Place. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late William J. and Eleanor (McBride) Place. Mr. Place was president and co-owner of the former Quality Glass Company in Cranston. Donald was a glazier for PPG for thirty-four years. He was a past treasurer of the Glaziers Union Local Chapter. Donald was a US Navy veteran serving during WW II.
He is survived by his children, Marilyn F. Shear of Smithfield, Janet Eckert and her husband Daniel of West Springfield, MA, Donna Perry and her husband Michael of Jamestown, Kathleen Place of Holderness, NH, Eileen Almeida and her husband Thomas of Warwick, Thomas J. Place and his wife Patricia of Wayland, MA and, LTC John Place, USA and his wife Susan of Barrington. He was the cherished grandfather of fifteen and the great-grandfather of three great-granddaughters. Donald was the brother of Eileen DiBiasio of Middletown, CT, Kathleen Brown of Higganum, CT, Vincent Place of Franconia, NH, and the late Eleanor Porter, Marie Tymon, Shirley Paquin, and Clement Place.
