It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald R. Gallo, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, cousin, and friend. He passed away at the age of 91 surrounded by his loving family.
Donald was born in Providence to the late Angelo and Laura Gallo (Belisle) and was the brother of the late Jean Ballirano and Janet LeMay. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and proudly served in the United States Navy for eight years. After returning home from the Navy, he attended cosmetology school and later opened his own salon, “HairBenders,” in South Attleboro MA. For over 50 years, he worked as a hairstylist , a profession he remained passionate about even after retiring. Following his retirement, he worked at Women and Infants Hospital. He was responsible for transporting pre-natal and oncology patients to and from their appointments. His gentle nature put patients at ease.
Donald leaves behind his beloved wife, Dorothy Gallo (DiMuccio), with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. He is survived by his two daughters Lori Martin (Scott) and Linda Fernandes (Gary). As well as his two adoring granddaughters, Sophia Fernandes and Olivia Martin. He cherished his family above all else, especially his two “sweethearts,” Sophia and Olivia.
Those who knew Donald will remember his ability to form deep connections with beloved friends and neighbors. The countless hours spent on the phone connecting with friends and family brought him tremendous joy. All the kindness shown to Donald was deeply valued and appreciated. He has always had a remarkable ability to build meaningful relationships with others. He considered many of his friends as part of his family. He made sure you knew how much he adored all those who were so close to him.
Throughout his life, Donald enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He liked skiing, playing the piano, appreciating and driving cars, listening to music, going out to eat, learning new words, drinking good coffee and taking great care of his much loved dogs, notably Maxie, Rosco, and Lillie. Donald was very spiritual and enjoyed reading the Bible and praying.
In the words of Donald, “God bless you.”
