89, of Hines Farm Rd., Cranston died April 29, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Providence the son of the late Domingo and Filomena (Torrealday) Zubiaga. He was a Providence Policeman for 25 years and retired as a Detective. For the next 25 years he worked for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of RI in security. He was a graduate of Central High School in the June class of 1941 where he was a member of the basketball team. He spent much of his youth at the Providence Boys'Club where he also played basketball and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1981. During World War II he served in the US Coast Guard and his fondest remembrance was when his ship was sent to Europe to bring home American solders when the war was over. Dom was known for his encyclopedic memory and sharp mind which served him well to the end. He was avid sports enthusiast and could easily recall games and players from bygone eras. He was a wonderful son, a great brother and special uncle to numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He is survived by two sisters, Filomena (Philly) Silvestri and Mary Macera, both of Cranston. He was also brother to the late Captain John F. Zubiago, PPD, Joseph L. Zubiaga, Claudia Marchetti, Emilia Zubiaga, Victoria Bennett, Sotera Zubiaga and Juanita DeJesus. His funeral will be held on Friday at 9am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in the Immaculate Conception Church, Oaklawn Ave.,Cranston. Interment with Military Honors will take place in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. VISITING HOURS Thursday 5-7pm. In lieu of flowers donations to the Providence Boys Club would be appreciated.
