99, of Elizabeth Rd., Narragansett, formerly of Cranston, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Madeline (DiPalma) Scardera. Born in Casacalenda, Italy, he was the son of the late Michelangelo and Carminella (Montagano) Scardera.
He worked at Coro Manufacturing and later was the founder and owner of Waverly Polishing Company for many years until his retirement when he then worked at Herff Jones.
Affectionately known as "Uncle Dom", he was a concessioner at Scarborough Beach and Misquamicut Beach. Many would remember him from the nights they danced to the jukebox on the boardwalk at Scarborough. He was a member of the Italo American Club. An avid dancer and card player, he enjoyed winter trips to Florida and more recently exercising with many friends at South County Pulmonary Rehab.
He was the devoted father of Ronald M. Scardera and his wife Ronni of Los Angeles, CA, David A. Scardera and his wife MaryAnn of Johnston and Lori M. Ruscito and her husband Joseph of Hubbardston, MA; loving grandfather of Dina, Julie, Donna, Raymond, Brian and Courtney; loving great-grandfather of Adriana, Jessica, Giuliana, Brittain, Miles and Roye; and dear brother of Anna M. Eugenio of Cranston and the late John A. Scardera and Joseph A. Scardera.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Friday at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Ghost Church, Knight St., Providence at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS are Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
