a lifelong advocate for quality produce in the wholesale distribution industry, passed away on October 4, 2024, at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 30, 1933, in Providence, Rhode Island, Dennis dedicated his life to a career that spanned decades, retiring from Community Fruitland, after previously working at Michael Brothers and Tourtellot & Co.
Dennis's unwavering passion for fruits and vegetables extended beyond his professional life; he relished in the joy of growing his own garden, demonstrating his commitment to cultivating not only the best produce but also cherished memories with his family and friends. His love for the earth's bounty was evident in both his work and personal life, fostering a sense of connection to the land and its offerings.
Dennis was a devoted father to his children, Linda S. Mazariegos of Providence, Dennis A. McDonnell of Cranston, Diane M. Merola of Johnston, and Christine R. Simone of Johnston. He took immense pride in being a grandfather to nine grandchildren and a great-grandfather to eleven great-grandchildren, who brought him joy and fulfillment throughout his life.
He is survived by his beloved sister, Jeanette Hall of Cranston. Dennis was predeceased by his wife, Maureen M. (DeFusco) McDonnell, as well as his parents, James and Della (Abbood) McDonnell. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Denise A. DiPalma, and two brothers, Thomas McDonnell and James McDonnell, along with his sister, Irene Richardson.
Dennis's legacy will live on in the lives of those he loved and those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be remembered not only for his contributions to the produce industry but also for the love and devotion he exhibited towards his family.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at 9am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Rocco Church, 927 Atwood Avenue, Johnston. VISITING HOURS Wednesday from 4-7pm. Entombment will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Our Risen Christ Garden Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
