60, of Cranston, died peacefully on July 13 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence with his wife by his side. David was the beloved husband of Meg Governo. Born in Providence, he was the son of Emilienne (Michaud) DelBonis of Johnston and the late Oliver A. DelBonis. Known for his independent spirit, creativity and vast knowledge, David was proficient in many fields, most recently as the owner of DelBonis Construction. He worked in the construction industry for over 40 years focusing on historic renovation with special expertise in mid-century modern and green design. David was a creative designer, engineer and artist. He also maintained an auto repair shop for many years on Federal Hill, later converting the shop into a beautiful home with Tuscan-like gardens where he lived with his family for many years. His home was adorned with antiques he collected throughout his life. David was also an accomplished chef. He shared his love of food and wine often with family and friends. Cooking for family gatherings on holidays and special occasions were one of his special joys. David was also a member of the United States Selective Service System Local Board in RI. David was the devoted father of Greta R. DelBonis and Margot E. DelBonis. Besides his wife, children and mother, he is also survived by his sister, Donna E. DeFusco of Haddam Neck, CT, brother, Joseph J. DelBonis and his wife Mary of Santa Barbara, CA along with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, RI on Saturday at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 239 Oxford Street, Providence.
