DANIEL J. TAVARES, SR., 90, of Westwind Manor in Franklin, NJ and formerly of Warwick, RI, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, NJ surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary C. (Faria) Tavares. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Emanuel and Wilhelmina (Pina) Tavares.
Mr. Tavares was an ironworker foreman for 30 years and worked for J. Regan Steel Company in West Warwick and later worked at General Dynamics in North Kingstown as a blueprint reading assistant in their engineering and planning department before retiring in 1986. He was a member of Ironworker's Union Local 37 in Providence.
He was the devoted father of Daniel J. Tavares, Jr. and his wife Jane of Vernon, NJ and Dennis J. Tavares of Denver, CO; loving grandfather of Keith Tavares of Newport, RI, Todd Tavares of Vernon, NJ and Tracy Nelson of Wantage, NJ; loving great-grandfather of 6; and dear brother of Eleanore Gonsalves of Warwick, RI, Joseph Tavares of Vancouver, WA, Ronald Tavares of Arlington, VA, Harold Tavares of Cranston, RI, Roy Tavares of Weeki Wachee, FL, and the late Raymond and Oliver Tavares.
His funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Rd., Warwick at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
