Daniel F. Rice, Sr. 69, of Knollwood Ave. Cranston, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at the RI Hospital, in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Murray) Rice. They were married for the past 47 years. He was born in Providence a son of the late Clifford and Joyce (McGowan) Rice. Mr. Rice was a Retired Food Service employee for the State of RI for many years. Daniel was involved for 23 years with the Cranston Babe Ruth League, and was also a 6 year Past-President and served on the Board of Directors. He coached for LaSalle Academy and the Cranston American Little League. Mr. Rice was very active in youth Baseball Leagues with fundraising and organizing. Daniel was also honored as Man of the Year for 2005, for the RI Umpires Association. Besides his wife Barbara he is survived by his loving children, Lori McFadden and her husband Joe of Cranston, Daniel F. Rice, Jr. and his wife Karen of West Greenwich, Geri Roberge and her husband William of Warwick, his brothers, Clifford Rice of East Greenwich, Arthur Rice of North Providence, and Lee Rice of North Kingstown. He was also the cherished grandfather of Scott, Shannon, Billy, Blake and Daniel III. His funeral will be held on Saturday, at 10 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME 1278 Park Ave. Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St. Mary's Church, Cranston St. Cranston. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Friday 4-8 pm.
