It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dana DeLuca Shechtman, 70, on July 19th, 2023 in Westport, MA. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the beloved daughter of the late Marie I DeLuca and Joseph DeLuca, the mother of Sarah Shechtman and Emma Shechtman and the stepmother of Jason Shechtman. Dana leaves behind a legacy of love, learning, and passion that touched the lives of many.
Throughout her life, Dana had a hunger for learning. She embarked on a remarkable academic journey, graduating from Skidmore College in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. Continuing her pursuit of excellence, Dana traveled to Padova, Italy, to pursue a Medical Degree. While on a break from medical school, destiny returned her to the United States, where she met her (now former) husband, Stephen Shechtman. She decided to stay in the US and further her education, earning a law degree from New England School of Law in 1986. This achievement would pave the way for her to practice for several years at the family firm while serving as chair of the Barrington Juvenile Hearing Board.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dana was an avid reader. Dana pursued her next chapter, purchasing independent bookstore Barrington Books in Barrington Rhode Island in 2008, a haven for fellow avid readers.
Dana's love knew no bounds, and she expressed it beautifully through the art of cooking. Family and friends were blessed with countless delectable meals on holidays and special occasions, a testament to her boundless affection. Dana's unwavering love extended to her children, whom she cherished deeply. An animal lover at heart, she cherished many moments with her dogs that she raised with devoted care.
Dana's memory will forever be cherished by her loving children, Sarah Shechtman and Emma Shechtman, as well as her stepson, Jason Shechtman. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Debra M DeLuca, and brother, Jay DeLuca, and many other family members and friends.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday July 27, 2023, at 10:00 am at The Redwood Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence RI, 02906. Everyone is asked to go directly to the Redwood Chapel. Burial will follow in Swan Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation, 249 Roosevelt Ave., Suite 201, Pawtucket, RI 02860.
