Corrine M. (Manzo) DeSilva

75, died Sunday at home surrounded by her family after a long battle with mantle cell lymphoma.

She was married to Roger, the love of her life, for 55 wonderful years. They met in 1966 at Food Town market; she was the cashier and Roger was in the checkout line.

Corrine’s life was centered on faith, family, friendships and love.

She leaves her children, Melissa Saccoccio, and her husband, Dr. Steven Saccoccio; Jason DeSilva, and his wife Jennifer; Stephanie Mandeville and her husband Jean-Paul, all of Cranston.

She was blessed with her beloved grandchildren, Giovanna, Luke, Dominic, Mary, Jason Jr., Peter, Caroline, and great-granddaughter Amari.

Corrine was the daughter of Joseph and Mary “Sue” Manzo. She is survived by her devoted sisters, Claudia Rouleau of Cranston and Vanessa Christofaro and her husband Steven of Narragansett. She had many nieces, nephews and godchildren for whom she had great affection.

Corrine devoted her life to God with a deep and abiding faith. She grew up in St. Mary Parish and later found her home at Immaculate Conception Parish. She always trusted in God’s plan for her, even through her suffering. Her courage and steadfastness was a source of inspiration to all who knew her.

Corrine enjoyed a happy childhood in Cranston surrounded by her cousins and friends, many of whom she carried with her throughout her lifetime.

She was a proud employee for 30 years in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Women and Infants Hospital. Corrine’s job gave her great joy, but she was especially fulfilled with the friendships she acquired from her numerous bosses and co-workers throughout the years.

Corrine excelled at entertaining and was the consummate hostess. She always set a beautiful table and made the most delicious food. Making people comfortable and feeling at home in an unfussy way is where she truly shined. Her Sunday dinners were her way of gathering her “chicks” to keep up with their lives and wish them a good week.

Among her hobbies was her Gourmet Group, lifelong friends she cherished like family who, for over forty years, gathered to challenge their culinary skills and explore different ethnic food, wine, and music. Corrine was an avid knitter and enjoyed learning the triumphs and frustrations of a round of golf in her retirement.

Corrine’s family would like to thank Hope Health Hospice, the doctors and staff at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and especially the doctors and nurses and staff at the Fain Center at The Miriam Hospital for their care and comfort.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Saturday, January 28th at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Cranston. Her burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS will be held on Friday 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.
