Clifton F. Chappel, Jr. 75, of Wakefield previously of Jamestown passed away on Thursday December 3, 2009 at RI Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Jeanne (Brunelle) Chappel. He was born in Cranston, and was the son of the late Clifton F. Chappel, Sr. and Helen (Smith) Chappel. Mr. Chappel was a Retired Sales Rep. at the Research Institute of America in NY, and was formerly employed at M.A. Gammino and Campenella&Cardi Construction Companies. Clifton was a US Marine Corps Korean War veteran, past State Commandant of the RI Marine Corps League, and an active member of the South County Detachment. He was the Marine Corp League Rep. for the Boost Program at the Officers Candidate School in Newport for Achievement Awards. Cliff was well known for the picture he took of the Twin Towers, to which he raised $50,000 for the Twin Towers Fund 911 for widows and children of Police and Firefighters, for this he received the Chapel of the Four Chaplains award honoring his outstanding Patriotism, Character and Sacrifice. Cliff was also an Iwo Jima Lecturer at the Naval Justice School in Newport, and a member of the VFW Post of Wakefield. He was in Alcoholics Anonymous, sober 43 years, and was an original founder of the Garden City Group. Besides his wife he is survived by his loving daughters, Vanessa Krasnowiecki and her husband Matthew of AL and Christina Wilcox and her husband Peter of South Kingstown. He was also the cherished grandfather of Christopher, Olivia, Sarah, Emma, Aidan, Grace, Matthew and Luke, and brother of Richard Chappel of Warwick and the late Raymond Chappel. His funeral will be held on Monday at 9 am from the Nardolillo Funeral Home SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL 1111 Boston Neck Rd. (Rte. 1A) Narragansett, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Mark's Church, Narragansett Ave. , Jamestown. Burial with Military Honors will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. VISITING HOURS: Sunday 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, 825 College Blvd, Suite 102 PMB 609, Oceanside, CA 92057.
