CHRISTOPHER GILBERT

Christopher Gilbert 57, of Ardoene Street, Providence, died Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Barbara (Harris) Morin. Born in Birmingham, AL he was a son of the late Floyd and Rose (Walker) Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert was a Professor of Psychology at Bristol Community College for fifteen years. He was also a poet. His book of poems, "Across the Mutual Landscape", won the 1983 Walt Whitman Award. He was a member of the Academy of American Poets. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter, Gracie Y. Gilbert, at home and his son, Robin W. Gilbert of Boston. Mr. Gilbert was the step-father of Heather Morin of Providence and Tanya Morin of Madison, WI. He was the brother of Carolyn Grace, Raymond Gilbert both of Lansing, MI and Ngere Wali of Okemos, MI and the late Floyd Gilbert Jr. and Freda Robertson. His funeral services and burial will be in Lansing, MI. A memorial service will be held locally at a later date.
