died peacefully on December 11 following a brief illness, surrounded by family. She was born on June 4, 1927 to the late Ella (DeAngelus) and John Melone. She was the sister of the late Eleanor Ritota, John Melone, and Irene LaMontagne. She was a graduate of Cranston High School, class of 1945, and Rhode Island College, class of 1949 earning a BS in Education. She also received her PhysEd Specialty certification from the University of Wisconsin. She was proud to be a teacher in the Cranston Public school system for 35 years, receiving numerous awards including Teacher of the Year. She was the alumni speaker at Rhode Island College’s 1999 commencement, ending her address with: “In the words of Bobby McFarrin, ‘Don’t worry, be happy…’”, which were words she lived by.
Family and friends were extremely important to her. She maintained a 70+ year friendship with a group of classmates from RIC, affectionately known as “the girls” and is survived by 4 of these cherished friends. She was well loved by her neighbors and friends in North Attleboro, where she resided for 58 years. Always caring for others, she would bake a cake or drop off some homemade soup for anyone in need. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 57 ½ years, William Curren. He was the love of her life. She is survived by her 5 children: Allison Curren, William Curren, Jr (Susan), Leslie Milligan (Warren Low), John Curren (Heidi), and Craig Curren (Molly). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Christine loved animals, having many dogs and cats over the years. Her absolute favorite pet was her last, dear Whoopie.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at St Matthews Church in Cranston, RI will be held on Friday, December 18 at 10 am. Seating will be limited. Masks are required and social distancing will be observed. Her burial is private.
