94, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center, Providence. She was the beloved wife of sixty-five years to Emmett Tate. Born in Bentonia, MS, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Ella Josey (Taylor) Owens. Mrs. Tate was a seamstress and was employed by Fisher Body Company, General Motors for many years where she made auto interiors. She began her career as a dress maker and also worked for Bobby Brooks Clothing Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Tate was also the co-owner of the former Tate Grocery in Cleveland, Ohio. Carrie enjoyed gardening and was an excellent baker.
Besides her husband she is survived by her loving children, Jerry A. Tate and his wife Katherine of Cleveland, OH and Carolyn E. Kpea and her husband Nomate of Wakefield. Carrie was the cherished grandmother of ChereeI�, VureI�, Charles, Leesi, Leera, and Shannon, and great-grandmother of Chaiyana, Chaina, and Jeremiah. She was the sister of the late Fred, W.T., James, Woodrow, Booker T., Bess, Carey, Thelmon Owens, and Ella Jo Harris.
Her funeral service will be held in the Nardolillo Funeral Home & Crematory, SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111Boston Neck Road, (Rt.1A) Narragansett on SATURDAY at 11:00 a.m. VISITING HOURS SATURDAY MORNING 10:00-11:00 am. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter on MONDAY at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the River of Life Church, 202 Congress Avenue, Providence, RI 02907-1720.
