"Bessie the Best" 90, of Riverside, Rhode Island passed away peacefully at RI Hospital after an eight week illness on Monday April 15, 2013. She was the beloved wife of George Trambukis for 62 years in June. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Perdikis) Karahalios. Bessie graduated from Central High School, where she played on the volleyball team. After staying home and raising her three daughters, she went to work at Road-Light which was a family owned business. She had such a warm and friendly personality that all the customers fell in love with her and knew her on first name basis. Her first love was for her family. She had such a warm and gentle spirit about her. She had a reputation for making some of the best Greek pastries in town. Everyone looked forward to the holidays because they knew they'd be in for a treat. Bessie was the devoted mother of Kathy Coyne and her husband Tom of Rehoboth, MA, Marion Panichas and her husband Steve of Barrington, RI and Joanne Laferriere and her husband Dan of Walpole, MA. She was also the loving grandmother of Jason, Jessica, Jared, Matthew, Nicholas, Alex, Meghan, Carrie and Brian. In addition to her grandchildren she leaves three great grandchildren who adored her, Ethan, Madison, and Hallie. She was the sister of the late Thomas, Spero and Charles Karahalios, Mildred Panagetopoulos, Toola Moretti and Bertha Sarganis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Thursday, April 18TH at 11 o'clock in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Cranston, RI. Burial will be in the North Burial Ground, Providence, RI. Calling hours have been respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Endowment Fund, 175 Oaklawn Ave. Cranston, RI 02920.
