of East Greenwich, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. She was the beloved wife of James Palumbo. They were married 35 years. Barbara was born in Providence, the daughter of the late Anthony and Theodora (Marcopoulos) Montanaro. Barbara graduated from the University of Rhode Island and received her Master's degree from Rhode Island College. She taught English at Johnston High School until her retirement after many years of dedicated service. Subsequent to her retirement she taught English as a Second Language for the Narragansett Public Schools. Barbara was an avid reader and believer in the power of education and its impact on the individual and the community. Besides her beloved husband, she is survived by her loving brother David Montanaro. Barbara's funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Burial will take place at St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Saturday morning 9-10 am.
