95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at home with her loved ones. She was born and raised in Providence, RI. From an early age, Barbara was ambitious, working as a nanny at home and traveling with the families, saving her income for the future. She was a graduate of Bryant College, Class of ‘48 and worked as secretary to Dr. Boyd for many years. Barbara met the love of her life, Bob Knox, at a dance at the Newport Naval Base. They fell in love and were married on March 16, 1957 and settled in Warwick where they resided for 60 years before moving to Narragansett. Warwick will always be “home”. It was there that they raised their family. As devout Catholics, always putting their love of God and family first, they attended St. Rose of Lima Church and continued to serve as active parishioners at St. Clement’s for many years. Barbara’s great lifetime love of music and many years of singing led her to her position as the parish organist and soloist, also performing at parishes throughout the state of Rhode Island singing and playing at weddings and funerals. She remained a member of the St. Clement’s choir. Music was her passion.
Barbara’s other passion was to travel, which she began doing in her younger years. As her children became young adults, she began another adventure as a Travel Agent at both Donovan Travel and O’Rourke Travel. She traveled the world! Bob and Barbara loved to travel together both in the US and abroad, especially to Ireland, the home of Bob’s family; and the islands of the Dutch West Indies, the home of Barbara’s family. They “commuted” back and forth to their Boca Raton condo, traveling and golfing with good friends year round!
Barbara’s family meant everything to her! She was the beloved and devoted wife of Robert J. Knox. Mother of Mary (Townsend), Robert Jr. and his wife Heather and Patrick Knox. Grandmother of Tara, Renee, Patrick Jr., Troy, Alexandria, RJ (Robert III) and Avalee. Great-Grandmother of Andrew, Joshua, Eden, Shamus, Grace, Wyatt and Remington. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and close family friends.
A very special thank you to Barbara’s caregivers for their friendship and support over the years!
