Arthur J.J. Montanaro, 80, of Cranston, died Thursday, January 24, 2008 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. A life-long resident of Cranston, he was the beloved husband of the late Evelyn M. Montanaro and son of the late Angela and Francesco Montanaro. Mr. Montanaro taught for over 40 years at Coventry High School serving as chairman of the Business Department. He was an avid golfer, coaching the high school team and playing both golf and tennis for many years. Previous to teaching, he worked for CIA in Washington, DC following service in both the Coast Guard and the Navy. He held a bachelor's degree in history from Bryant College and completed post graduate work in business at RI College. He was an active parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church, a member of the choir and the planning board for the parish school. He was a lifelong member of the John Ruggeri American Legion in Cranston. He will be best remembered for his good nature and loyal dedication to his beloved late wife Evelyn, his four children and12 grandchildren as well as his many relatives and life long friends. Mr. Montanaro is survived by his four children: Ann Morrissey and her husband Michael and Maria Montanaro and her husband David Warner, both of Wakefield, Arthur J. Montanaro an his wife Janice and Diana Lachance and her husband Philip, both of Cranston, as well as his sister Palma DePetrillo. Funeral from the Nardolillo Funeral Home , 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, on Tuesday at 8:45 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Conception Church, Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Monday, 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
