Antonio F. Rebelo, 95 of Cranston, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, with his family by his side. Born in Prados, Celorico da Beira, Portugal. He was the son of the late Joaquim and Maria da Fonseca Rebelo. He was the beloved husband just shy of 64 years of Maria Fernanda Fragoso Rebelo.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children Maria C. Young and her husband Chris, and Tony Rebelo. He was the grandfather of Jennifer Young, and Jordan Young and his wife Rene. He was the brother of the late John R. da Fonseca, and Paixao da Fonseca. The sparkle in his eyes were seeing his grandchildren, Jennifer and Jordan.
In 1955, he traveled to Angola for work settling in Lobito for nearly 20 years before emigrating to the US with his beloved family. Antonio had a great passion for yard work, meticulous about his landscaping. Even mowing the lawn after the landscaper left, and there was never a leaf left unattended. Alongside his wife Fernanda, their annual tradition was planting and tending to their beloved vegetable garden, from the tomatoes, string beans and beyond. They also would spend a month every summer in their vacation home in Portugal. Antonio loved to travel to California, to visit his son, and of course refining the yard work. His children and grandchildren were his world, his time with them was cherished .Antonio and his beloved Fernanda for decades sat in the same pew at St. Matthew’s for Sunday mass. Beyond his family, religion was a very important aspect of his life.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday January 23, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Matthew’s Church, 1291 Elmwood Ave., Cranston. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church. BURIAL IS RESPECTFULLY PRIVATE. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to American Heart Association, 1 State St. Unit 200, Providence, RI 02908.
