90, of Cranston, passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 8, 2010 at Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Angelina "Lena" E. (Cerini) Alfano with whom he would have celebrated his 68th anniversary on February 14. Born in Providence, Tony was the son of the late Luigi and Maria (Mattera) Alfano. He received his degree in Business Administration from Bryant College and received the Bryant Key as a member of the honor society. After 35 years, he retired from the U.S. Government where he held the positions of Digital Computer Systems Administrator at the Construction Battalion Center, Davisville, RI and the Naval Submarine Base, Groton, CT. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the 3rd Army Air Force 3rd Statistical Control Unit (SCU) for 39 months. As an active member of the Italian American War Veterans he held many positions in ITAM Post 4 and 30 and in the National organizations including National Commander in 1985. He was also active in other organizations where he was past president of the Verrazano Day Observance Committee, life member of Knights of Columbus Council # 2995, past Department Commanders Association and past president of the Warwick Veterans Council. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, David and his wife Milly of Cranston, Raymond and his wife Carol of East Greenwich, and Steven and his wife Jackie of North Kingstown and his 8 grandchildren, Bethany, Allyson, Scott, Jenna, Stephanie, Danielle, Amanda, and Christopher. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren. He was the brother of Benjamin, John, Mario, Joseph, the late Esther Fucci and Sue Johnson. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME 1278 Park Avenue Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of St. Mark, Garden City Cranston at 10:00am. Burial, with military honors, will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Friday 4:00 - 8:00pm.
