98, of Cranston, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence with her loving family at her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter Buonfiglio, Sr. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Michele and Concetta (Vallande) Merolla. During her professional life, she held many executive secretarial positions, her last being at the Gorham Division of Textron where she was an executive secretary to the Manager of Foreign Sales. Antonetta was the best female athlete at Commercial High School in her day. Later in life, she enjoyed golf, playing duplicate bridge, crosswords puzzles, watching tennis and was a great Providence College Basketball fan. Mrs. Buonfiglio was active in the community. She was one of the founders and first President of the Oaklawn Senior Citizens, member of the Cranston Garden Club, a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church and a member of its Rosary and Altar Sodality. She is survived by her son Peter Buonfiglio, Jr., her grandson Peter Buonfiglio, III and his wife Jerilyn, and her great granddaughter Ariana Grace Buonfiglio to whom she was her cherished Nonna; all of Cranston. She raised her grandson from 13 months old after her son was widowed in 1970. Antonetta dedicated her life to both her son and her grandson. Antonetta was the sister of the late Arthur and Joseph Merolla. Mrs. Buonfiglio was the mother in law of the late Barbara V. Buonfiglio. Her funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Friday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Conception Church, Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
