Anthony “Tony” Torti, 91, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2021 at home after an extended illness. Born in the Silver Lake section of Cranston on May 25, 1930, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Mary (De Robbio) Torti. He is brother of the late Angelina (Torti) Soprano, the late Antonetta (Torti) Jesse, the late Frank Torti, the late Joseph Torti Junior, the late Louis Torti, Alfred Torti of East Greenwich and William Torti of Johnston.
Mr. Torti worked 50 years as a machine designer and product designer and holds 4 US Patents. In the 1950’s he was a member of the team that manufactured the fuel rods for the USS Nautilus (SSN-571), the world’s first operational nuclear-powered submarine. He was an Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas for active duty and served 6 years in the reserves.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Margherita “Rita” M. (Badessa) Torti and his sons, Anthony M. Torti and his wife Maria (Pastore) Torti of Narragansett, Thomas S. Torti of Las Vegas, and Edward P. Torti and his partner Julie Meisler of Narragansett. He is the grandfather of Maria-Grace Torti of Narragansett and Michelle L. (Torti) Mahar of Southington, CT. He is the great grandfather of late Amelia L. Mahar, Leah V. Mahar and Alexandra I. Mahar of Southington, CT and Justin A. Torti-Munro of Narragansett.
His funeral will be held on Friday at 9 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory 1278 Park Ave., Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Mark's Church. Burial will take place in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Thursday 4- 7 pm.
