93, of Johnston, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. He was the husband of Lucille A (Tartaglia) Barone Sauro and the late Teresa G (DiZazzo). Born in Italy, he was the son of the late John and Catarina (Patuto) Sauro. Anthony was a member of the Providence Fire Department for 38 years, retiring as Deputy Assistant Fire Chief. He served in the US Marine Corps as Platoon Sgt. during the Korean War. He was a Providence College Graduate. He was a member of the (NFPA) National Fire Protection Association, Electric Systems Maintenance. He also endowed a Monetary Award (DAC SAURO AWARD) yearly to a Providence firefighter bringing Credit to the Department. He has many firefighting practice certificates. He was also an accomplished Electrician as the owner of the former Roman Electric, and an avid Dancer.
Anthony was a loving and giving father to his four children, Anthony V. Sauro, Jr. (Ret. PPD) and wife Donna, Kathy Sauro D'Arienzo and husband Stephen, Rocco Sauro (Ret. PFD) and wife Kelly, John Sauro (Ret. PFD) and wife Karen. Grandchildren, Stephanie Simonelli and husband Nathan, Stacie, Alexandra, and Anthony Sauro, and Stephen D'Arienzo. Great Grandchild Kylie Sauro. He was the brother of the late Etta Sauro Pursche and the late Angelo (Burt) Sauro. He was a brother-in-law of George Pursche and Joyce Sauro. He was a past member of the Knight of Columbus and the Lions Club. He was a parishioner of St. Rocco Church where he was a member of the Legion of Mary and St. Bartholomew Church where he was an Alter Server. He was also a supporter of St. Vincent Church, Margate, FL.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 10:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Rocco’s Church, Johnston. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS will be held on Tuesday morning from 8:00 – 10:00 am.
