Anthony (Tony) Michael Pelopida, Sr. died peacefully on May 6, 2023 at the age of 82, from Lewy body dementia.
Tony was born to Eliseo and Edith (Messore) Pelopida in Providence, RI on September 29, 1940; the tenth of ten children.
Tony had five sisters Helen Silvio, Connie Tessitore, Lisa Boffi, Ann Dicaprio, and Jan Colavecchio. He also had four brothers Anthony, Joseph, Lawrence, and Louis he was predeceased by all of them.
Tony married Ruth Eleanor Anderson on May 28, 1960, his high school sweetheart. They were married for 62 years this past May.
Tony was the loving father to Michael, Sherri Lynn, and Anthony Jr. and his wife Agnes. He also had four grandchildren Dylan, Karissa, Alexander, and Eliseo (named after his great grandfather) and four great grandchildren Clarabeth, Aiden, Olivia, and Jaxson.
Tony spent his formative years and college years in the Rhode Island School system.
Tony was a U.S. Air Force Veteran receiving his discharge in 1965 after serving through the Vietnam Era. Tony worked for Leesona Corp. in R.I. as both a supervisor of graphic services and later an auditor. Tony then took a position as a finance officer at Brown University Medical School and later back the Associate Vice President for Business and finance for their medical school.
Tony’s passion was baseball (N.Y. Yankees) for 18 years he taught baseball to youngsters in the Warwick American Little League and also worked with youngster in CYO basketball for many years. He received the “Volunteer of the Year” award for his many hours of work with youngsters. He was known as Mr. P because his name was too difficult for the kids to pronounce.
Tony and his wife retired to Lake Ashton in Lake Wales Florida after many years of traveling in their RV across country. Where most of his time was spent on the golf course with this wife and friends.
Finally due to his strong devotion to his every-growing family in January of 2020 they moved back to R.I. and it was during this time Tony was blessed with four great grandchildren. It was also here in R.I. where Tony received the devastating diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia. Tony lived his life giving, helping, and loving everything he did. But Most of all and through it all he had his best friend his rock, the love of his life, his wife Ruthie by his side.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday May 11, 2023, at 11:00 am at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston. Burial will be private. VISTING HOURS will be held just prior to the service from 9:30 – 11:00 am. Donations in his memory can be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 245 Waterman St., Suite 306, Providence 02906.
