ANTHONY P. MARZELLA

Anthony P. Marzella 77, of Cranston, previously of Johnston passed away Thursday January 28, 2010 at Kent Regency Rehabilitation Center, Warwick after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Arlene (Tritendi) Marzella. He was born in Providence, a son of the late Pasquale and Mary (Santa Maria) Marzella. Mr. Marzella was a retired State of RI employee, who's career began as a record keeper in the Department of Transportation, and culminated in his being appointed as Administrator of the States Occupational Safety Office (OSHA) , within the Department of Labor. Anthony was a Korean War veteran serving in the Army as a member of the 55th Military Police Company. During his time in the Army, Corporal Marzella received several commendations for excellence in performance and was assigned to command the personal security details of both Gen. Maxwell Taylor and South Korean President Syngman Rhee. Mr. Marzella was a Coach and Past President of several youth sports leagues in Johnston, where he founded the Towns 13 year old Babe Ruth League. He is survived by his loving children, Stephanie Susi of Johnston, Anthony S. Marzella of Johnston and David Marzella of Coventry. Anthony was also the cherished grandfather of 5, and brother of Pasquale Marsella of Cranston and Elena Di Giovanni of Providence. His funeral will be held on Monday at 9 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME 1278 Park Ave. Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Our Lady of Grace Church George Waterman Rd., Johnston. Burial with Military Honors will be in Highland memorial Park, Johnston. VISITING HOURS: Sunday 4-7 pm.
