Anthony J Cipolla

Anthony “Tony” Cipolla, 93, of Johnston, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2023.  He was the loving husband of Dolores (Laurenzo) Cipolla for 66 years.  Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John and Etta (DeCubellis) Cipolla.  He proudly served his Country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.  Tony worked as Assistant  Director at the City of Providence Department of Public Works before retiring in 1995.

He was also a well-known jazz musician. The Tony Cipolla Trio performed for the better part of five decades at many of the top jazz and live music venues throughout the state.  Music was his true passion.  He opened the Johnston Music Center in 1967  which provided music lessons on all instruments to students of all ages.

Tony loved spending time with family and friends, reminiscing about his time in the Marine Corps, vacationing on the Cape, and frequenting waterfront restaurants.

In addition to his wife Dolores, he is survived by his beloved children John Cipolla and his wife Cynthia of Providence, Robert Cipolla of Cranston and his cherished grandchildren John Cipolla, Jr. and Bianca Cipolla.  He was the dear brother of the late Anita Chianese and Lisa Ottiano.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to HopeHealth Hospice Center and the outstanding staff who provided exceptional care, compassion and warmth to Tony and his family.

A private service with military honors will be held at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to Hope Health Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 are greatly appreciated.
