Anthony Cardillo

88, of Wayland, MA, formerly of Cranston, entered into eternal rest at MetroWest Medical Center, Framingham, MA on May 27, 2018 after a day surrounded in love by his family. Born in Cranston, RI on February 27, 1930, he was the fourth child of the late Erasmo and Benedetta (DiFazio) Cardillo. Anthony grew up in Cranston and graduated with honors from Cranston High School in 1948. He was first in his family to graduate college, Summa Cum Laude from both University of Rhode Island with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and Babson College in Wellesley, MA with an MBA in Business.

During his working career, he took time to serve for two years in the U.S. Army. Stationed in California, he worked with the emerging new concept of incorporating computers in Military Operations. Upon discharge, he returned to the electronics industry and worked for over 30 years in the missile/anti-missile defense programs at the General Dynamics Corporation in Massachusetts and Sylvania/GTE. As part of the management team, he traveled extensively to the Pacific with military personnel to test guided rocket systems. He continued to incorporate new advances in electronics into rocket systems until his retirement in 1991.

Anthony’s greatest joy was sharing himself and the success he achieved with his family. He loved music, attended operas in Boston, played classical guitar, and became a licensed glider pilot. His love for Boston was infectious. Through the years, he introduced and exposed family members to so many cultural activities and sports events in greater Boston. One of his favorite annual family gatherings was attending a Red Sox game.

The son of immigrant parents, Anthony’s value and pursuit of education and his personal work ethic led him to professional accomplishments that became an unending source of pride for his family. He generously shared his knowledge and experience, always encouraging family members to pursue higher education as a path to a better life. His inspiration, guidance and wisdom will be greatly missed by all.

Anthony is survived by his brother Marco and his wife, Rosaleen, of Poughkeepsie NY, sister, Palma Martone and sister-in-law Mildred Cardillo both of Cranston, RI.  He was predeceased by his brothers John and Albert, sister-in-law, Filomena Cardillo and brother in-law Victor Martone. He was the loving uncle of many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and one great-great nephew.

Tony was a cherished resident at Traditions of Wayland, an assisted living community, for the past thirteen years. He warmly considered Traditions to be his home and spoke often of the wonderful care and personal attention he received from the staff and management there.

Funeral from NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Monday at 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Rocco Church, 927 Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS Sunday 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice benefiting education.
