Anthony Michael Abbate, 86, of Providence and Narragansett, passed away on Saturday February 2, 2008, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Concetta (Barletta) Abbate. They were happily married for 59 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Giuseppee and Dominica (DeLuca) Abbate. Mr. Abbate was a WW-II U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the battles of Sicily, Rome, Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe, with decorations of European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign. He was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 37 years as the Supervisor of "Weybosset Hill" Station in Providence. Mr. Abbate was a faithful communicant of St. Teresa Church in Providence, and recently of St. Augustine's Church, Providence. He proudly served for many years as the Scout Master of Troop 84, Saint Teresa Church. He enjoyed many happy and memorable years with his family and friends at his summer residence in Narragansett. He is survived by his wife Concetta; their three loving sons, Dr. Anthony M. Abbate and his wife Linda of Santa Fe, NM; Hon. Joseph A. Abbate, Esq. of Providence, Associate Judge Providence Municipal Court; and William D. Abbate of Johnston; and his cherished granddaughters Nicole and Leah Abbate. He was the father of his sadly missed son the late David S. Abbate. He was the brother of Frank Abbate of Cranston and Beatrice Ursillo of Johnston, and the late Michael Abbate and Jenny Collins. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday February 6, 2008 at 10 a.m. in St. Teresa's Church, Providence. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
